John Jacob Niles (April 28, 1892 – March 1, 1980) was an American composer, chanteuse and collector of traditional ballads. Called the "Dean of Earth Balladeers,"[1] Niles was an ultimate influence on the American accustomed music revival of the Decennium and 1960s, with Odetta, Joan Baez, Burl Ives, Peter, Missionary and Mary and Bob Vocaliser, among others, recording his songs.
